LulzSec's Kayla given bail

Ackroyd spoke only to confirm his name. Bail is granted on the condition that he neither accesses the internet nor has a device capable of accessing the internet (such as a smartphone).

He is thought to be LulzSec's 'Kayla' and is, with Jake Davis ('Topiary') and two others, accused of launching DDoS attacks against the CIA, the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), Sony and other organizations. They are also accused of conspiring to hack into computers belonging to the NHS, News International, 20th Century Fox, HBGary and others.

Both Ackroyd and Davis are among the five LulzSec members who were charged by the FBI on 6 March (when it became known that LulzSec leader Sabu had been working with the FBI). In the US they are charged with two counts of computer hacking conspiracy. Each conspiracy count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

It is not known whether US authorities will seek extradition if they consider the outcome of the UK legal action to be too lenient. Current proceedings against Britons Gary McKinnon and Richard O'Dwyer would suggest this is likely. However, public opinion in the UK is that US/UK extradition arrangements lean too much in favor of the United States, and it is understood that Prime Minister Cameron raised the general issue with President Obama during their recent meeting.
