ISACA invites public comment on draft of new COBIT framework

First released back in the late 1990s, COBIT is a framework developed by ISACA for IT management and governance professionals, and is designed to allow managers to define the complex relationship that exists between security control requirements, technical issues and business risks.

Currently in v4.1, COBIT defines more than generic processes to manage IT, with each process defined along with process inputs and outputs, key process activities, process objectives, performance measures and an elementary maturity model.

Both of the COBIT 5 documents, says ISACA, are now available at www.isaca.org/cobit5exposure and will be open for comment until the end of the month.

Derek Oliver, the co-chair of the COBIT task force within ISACA, said that its value is, in a large part, due to the collaborative development process that brings together the talents and expertise of industry leaders around the world.

"We encourage IT and business professionals to actively participate in this major update to COBIT and help drive the direction of this important global initiative", he said.

The gameplan with v5 of the framework is to expand on v4.1 by connecting with other major frameworks, standards and resources, including the ISO, ISF, ITIL, the OECD, AICPA and NIST.
