Softek releases free USB drive management software

SafeConsole Lite, said the firm, includes the most used, core features, which include password complexity policy enforcement, remote password reset, device state management and full geo-location auditing plus reporting options.

Mike Bienvenu, Softek's technical director, said that, with all the recent high-profile data loss reports, customers are really starting to appreciate the need for managing their encrypted USB drives and now understand the risks.

“The ability to know how many pen drives are being used, who is using them and what is on each drive at any given time is critical for compliance”, he said.

"Also important is the ability to remotely wipe a device when a staff member leaves or the drive is lost, to remotely reset a user's forgotten password, and to enforce a complex password policy”, he added.

The new software is available to any company that purchases 25 or more hardware-encrypted USB drives from the company.
