Trend Micro introduces enterprise Mac security technology

22 September 2009

Trend Micro has taken the wraps off Security for Mac 1.5, an IT security suite that protects corporate users against the latest security threats targetting the Apple Mac OS-based platform.

Trend Micro, the veteran IT security vendor, said that the suite extends Trend's end point protection to enterprises who are juggling security for both Windows and Mac platforms on their corporate networks.

Tom Miller, Trend Micro's general manager for the company's enterprise business operation, said that the suite is designed to protect corporate Apple Mac users against viruses, spyware, blended threats and platform-independent web-based attacks.

In use, the software integrates with Trend Micro OfficeScan client/server, which has been protecting millions of PC-based endpoints for over a decade.

The suite includes Web Reputation, a key component of Trend Micro's Smart Protection Network infrastructure, using one of the largest domain-reputation databases in the world.

In use, Web Reputation technology prevents users and applications from accessing malicious or infiltrated websites while both on and off the corporate network.

"Cross platform web-based threats and phishing attacks exist, regardless of the operating system and as more enterprises adopt multiple platforms, they need flexible security that adapts to their needs," said Miller.

"Trend Micro has been conducting extensive OS X threat research for over seven years and is currently the only vendor protecting the Mac against native and cross platform web-based threats."
