A ‘cyber enforcement team’ is being introduced by the UK government as part of the scheme to combat online fraud. “Websense feels that any move to intensify the fight against online crime is a good one and a step in the right direction", said Carl Leonard, Websense's security research manager. "We commend the government for taking this action to help protect people against fraudulent online activity.”
Websense are highlighting the need for companies to minimise the risk of online fraud with up-to-date security solutions. Leonard continued: “In order to protect themselves and their employees, businesses should choose a security solution that keeps pace in real time with the constantly evolving threat landscape.”
The Office of Fair Trading presented a figure highlighting that 73% of adults received scams within the last year. Leonard is calling for users to wake-up to new threats and the shift in activity of cyber criminals. “Modern threats are often able to elude traditional antivirus and legacy security solutions", he noted. "Business has changed, cybercrime has changed, it's time security changed.”
