LANDesk beefs up mobile security portfolio by acquiring Wavelink

Privately held LANDesk Software has acquired Wavelink, a company that specializes in mobile security and management solutions. LANDesk said it plans to keep the Wavelink brand and product lines; financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“By 2013, more than a third of the world’s workforce will consist of mobile workers, potentially 1.2 billion people”, LANDesk noted in it’s press release on the announcement, citing data from analyst firm IDC. “IT departments are now responsible for managing and securing the full range of the mobile enterprise”, the company added, at it hopes the purchase of Wavelink will position it to “provide IT administrators with the true end-to-end enterprise mobility management they need in today’s complex mobile computing environment”.

Wavelink brings to LANDesk users from more than 15,000 companies using more than seven million mobile devices. “I am excited about the vast expertise and understanding of the mobile market that the talented employees, customers and partners of Wavelink will bring to LANDesk Software”, said Steve Daly, CEO of LANDesk, in the same PR statement.

LANDesk itself was acquired by private equity firm Thoma Bravo in August 2010.
