Most network security managers doubt companies' cybersecurity protection

A disturbing 93% of respondents believe that cyber attacks are on the rise, and 96% believe that they are becoming more sophisticated. In addition, 88% think the US government is not equipped to protect itself, according to the report, which was published by Narus, a supplier of network security products, in collaboration with Converge! Network Digest and Government Security News.

Those surveyed included Narus customers and prospects, as well as readers of Converge! and Government Security News.

Some other findings include:

  • Respondents cited viruses and malware (67%) and denial-of-service attacks (50%) as significant threats to organizations.
  • Nearly 74% of respondents expect their service provider to provide protection against cyber attacks.
  • A full 90% of respondents believe the best way to protect against cyber attacks is with a product that detects, analyzes and mitigates unwanted, unwarranted or malicious traffic in real time.
  • Close to 70% of respondents identified the inability to protect sensitive and confidential data as their top information security concern.

The study recommends that cyber security vendors form a cybersecurity ecosystem, in which vendors cooperate with other vendors in offering customers forensics, visualization, and data mining and storage products.
