As part of the plan, the government is developing a legal framework to enable prosecution of hackers who commit cybercrimes, FutureGov Magazine reports.
Nguyen Duc Tuan, head of the Vietnam Computer Emergency Reponse Team, told the magazine that the ministry has "drafted information security regulations, and penal provisions for cybercrime have been issued under the Criminal Code of Vietnam. Assigned government agencies will have the power to investigate security breaches in accordance with the law.”
The news website VietnamNet.vn has been a focus of cyberattacks. A hacker recently broke into the site exploiting a software security problem, and cleared all of the data from the host computer, according to FutureGov.
Around 1800 Vietnamese websites have been subjected to cyberattacks in the last couple of years, notes the Vietnamese Internet Security Company.
Vietnam ranks fifth in terms of internet attacks, according to VietnamNet. In addition, the country is among the top 15 in terms of being a source for malicious code.
