Webroot stores email in cloud

The Email Archiving Service archives all of a client's email on Webroot's own cloud based servers, and integrates directly with Outlook, said Webroot.

Email can be searched online directly from within the Outlook client, and it also integrates with back-end email storage systems including Lotus Notes, Exchange, and Groupwise. The Email Archiving Service also provides unlimited storage options in the cloud, which Webroot said removes the need for mailbox quotas.

The Email Archiving Service will integrate with another Webroot offering, the Email Security Service. This will enable customers to automatically encrypt their archived email based on pre-defined policies,Webroot explained. It will also provide them with an anti-spam function, in addition to anti-virus protection, email content scanning data loss protection, and business continuity services.

Webroot also updated its flagship SaaS based Web Security Service, which again operates in the cloud.

The service now features outbound malware scanning in an attempt to catch already-compromised computers with malware that is 'dialing home' for instructions from a command and control server.

The security service also features updated realtime detection heuristics, including better detection of polymorphic viruses, which alter their footprint by changing the contents of their binaries dynamically. Other web based attack mechanisms targeted by the new improved Web Security Service include cross-site scripting attacks and more advanced sandboxing capabilities. The security service has also been enhanced with new reporting and logging functions.
