Romney's use of breached Hotmail account is security 'jaw dropper'

Last week, a hacker told the website Gawker that he had beached Romney’s personal Hotmail account after guessing his “favorite pet” security question to change the password. The hacker said that Romney’s DropBox file sharing account had also been compromised.

The Romney campaign told Gawker that the “proper authorities are investigating this crime.” The hacker subsequently apologized for hacking into the Romney account in an email to Gawker.

Romney should have known better than to use a Hotmail account or any similar account for personal correspondents while running for president of the United States, said Lieberman.

“A Hotmail account – by definition – is never going to be as secure as is required for a presidential candidate or a member of his team”, he observed.

Although the hacker apologized, he is unlikely to escape justice. “It is also worth noting that it will be relatively easy for law enforcement officials to trace back the password recovery access session and prosecute under US wiretapping laws”, Lieberman said.
