EMC²’s purchase of NetWitness closed on April 1, with no details about how much was paid for the privately-held company based in Herndon, Va.
NetWitness, led by chief executive Amit Yoran, is a provider of network monitoring products with customers across the public and private sectors. In an open letter on its website, the NetWiness CEO opened by saying that it would “operate as a line of business under RSA”. He then thanked current NetWitness customers and partners for their support.
In a separate statement, EMC² said NetWitness would become part of RSA’s Advanced Security Management Solutions suite.
“The intensity and sophistication of advanced adversaries and zero-day malware challenge every organization to rethink traditional approaches to network security”, commented Tom Heiser, president of RSA, in a press release statement. “NetWitness’ unique network security analysis capabilities extend RSA’s solutions for managing security risk and compliance across both physical and virtual environments.”
Infosecurity notes that the deal’s close comes just weeks after RSA’s SecurID two-factor authentication product was revealed to be the target of security breach.
As we reported earlier today, the breach of RSA’s SecureID was accomplished through a vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player that was exploited via a targeted phishing attack. That’s according to a statement by Uri Rivner, RSA's head of new technologies, consumer identity protection.
